Garlic bread tastes delicious and can be a healthy side dish or snack when prepared properly!

1 slice of sourdough bread (all bread work)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 clove garlic, chopped OR 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Other Ingredients

  • 1 dash salt
  • Crushed red pepper- to taste
  • Black pepper- to taste


Step 1:

Set your oven to high broil.

Step 2:

If using fresh garlic, sprinkle around on the bread. Then drizzle and spread the olive oil over the the slice of bread. Top with the salt and black pepper. 

If using minced garlic, drizzle and spread around the olive oil on the bread. Then spread the minced garlic around after. Top with the salt and black pepper. 

Note: A dash of red pepper will enhance the buttery flavor of the bread but limit the spice.

Step 3:

Place your bread on a tray or directly on the oven rack on the top rack for 1 minute. Check to see if it is toasty enough for your preference. If not, keep it in, checking every 30 seconds until it is perfect. (It will burn quick so keep a close eye!)

Tips & Tricks:

  • The more red pepper the zestier the flavor.
  • Sprinkle on parmesan, cheddar or mozzarella on top of the bread for flavor and calcium. You can place it back in the oven for 30 seconds on the middle rack if it does not melt outside of the oven.
