Ingredients

1/2 cup instant oats

1 small apple

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (more is okay!) 

1 cup water

  • Optional : 1 tsp honey or maple syrup 

Instructions

Step 1:

Bring 1 cup of water to boil. Once boiling (bubbling), add oats, let it come back to a boil. 

Step 2:

Add in 1/2 of the apple pieces to sauce pan with oats. Let boil for a couple min and then lower heat to simmer. 

Step 3:

Keep watch over oats on simmer and stir frequently. Add water if necessary.

Step 4:

Pour oats into small bowl, add remaining apple pieces and mix in honey if using. Top with cinnamon. 

Tips & Tricks:

  • Although we prefer stovetop, this recipe can absolutely be made in the microwave. You will need to microwave on high for 1-2 minutes stirring after the first minutes, then after 30 seconds. 
  • You can also opt for nonfat (skim), low fat (1-2%), or alternative milk instead of water. This will add more protein, calcium, and vitamin D.
